Netley Abbey Junior School

Head Of School Welcome...

Netley Abbey Junior School is a happy, friendly and caring school at the heart of the local community. Set in the beautiful village of Netley on the Hampshire coast, our school provides a full, engaging and aspirational curriculum for all of our pupils, with our school values of Ready, Respectful, Safe and Kind at the core of all we do.

The original primary school was opened in 1876 at Butlocks Heath, with the present school site and buildings opening in 1974. The main building includes nine classroom areas situated around a well-stocked library and a full-class-sized ICT suite. In January 2004, a new wing consisting of two classrooms and a shared area was added. To accommodate the increased needs of the local area, there are also 4 additional classrooms on site, all with their own toilet facilities and air conditioning. We also have a nurture unit, The Shore, that helps us to provide the additional support many pupils require in order to feel safe and secure in a mainstream school setting.

We have a spacious and welcoming reception area and a school hall where school assemblies, PE and Drama lessons and other school functions take place. This is also where lunches are eaten, with our school meals provided by Aspens, who offer healthy, freshly prepared and cooked meals for the children that are ordered in advance.

Our school is incredibly fortunate to have the extensive and varied outside spaces that make up the rest of our grounds. There are two substantial playground areas and a large field that is surrounded by well-established trees. Wherever possible, we make use of this space for PE lessons, as well as the environment providing opportunities for science and geography fieldwork.

In 2015 we opened our outdoor classroom and we are also fortunate to have a large pond area, which allow our children to progress their learning in the fresh air. The addition of a brand new Playdale (climbing space), an Astroturf Sports and Multi-Use Games Area and Millennium Gardens in 2021 have seen us expand our outdoor space to further provide our pupils with interesting and engaging work and recreation spaces.

As a Federation, we work alongside the Infant School and share the same values and ethos, which allows our children to experience a consistent seven-year school journey with us. We know the importance of any child's Junior School experience, and our staff work hard to ensure that every pupil enjoys the full breadth of school-life, achieves their goals and is prepared for their next step at Secondary School.

We pride ourselves on the positive relationships we build with pupils and parents and look forward to welcoming you to our wonderful school. If you would like to arrange a tour of the school, or to have a conversation about your child joining our school family, please don’t hesitate to contact the school office and we will do all we can to help.
