Netley Abbey Junior School

Head Of School Welcome...

We'd love for you to come and see our school in action.

Netley Abbey Junior School is a community school found in the Itchen Valley area of Hampshire and is a place of contrasts, with coastline, countryside, heritage, modern transport, a broad range of facilities, quiet villages and thriving markets.

It is ideally located close to such areas of outstanding natural beauty as the New Forest and the Isle of Wight and heritage sites such as Winchester and Portsmouth.

The shores of the Hamble river are a haven for yachtsmen and the school itself is only a short distance from the Royal Victoria Country Park which sweeps down to the waters edge at Netley and is an ideal place to pursue walking and water sports amongst many other leisure facilities.

The original primary school was opened in 1876 at Butlocks Heath. The present school building was opened in 1974. The accommodation is made up of nine classroom areas situated around a library and ICT suite. In January 2004 a new wing consisting of two classrooms and a shared area was added. There are at present five mobile classrooms on site.

There is a spacious reception area and the school hall where school assemblies, PE and Drama lessons and other school functions take place. This is also where packed lunches are eaten and school meals provided by HC3S are prepared, served and eaten.

There are two playground areas and extensive playing fields. The school grounds provide a pleasant environment for the pupils and this is well utilised within our curriculum. In 2015 we opened our outdoor classroom and our pond area which allow our children to progress their learning in the fresh air. The addition of a brand new Playdale, a Sports and Multi-Use Games Area and Millennium Gardens in 2021 have seen us expand our outdoor space to further utilise this wonderful environment.

As a Federation, we work alongside the Infant School and share the same values and ethos which means our children experience a seven year school journey with us. We know the importance of any child's Junior School experience and as such, our staff work hard to ensure that our pupils enjoy the full breadth of school-life and achieve their goals, being prepared for their next step at Secondary School.

We look forward to welcoming parents of new and existing pupils to our wonderful school; please do not hesitate to contact our school office to arrange a tour.
