Our Pedagogy
Meet Net and Lee
Net and Lee are our school learning characters who help bring our curriculum to life and guide children on their learning journey. Throughout their time at school, Net and Lee encourage children to be Ready, Respectful, Safe and Kind, helping them to develop the behaviours, skills and attitudes needed to achieve ‘Excellence Every Day’.
They support children to be curious, resilient and independent learners, encouraging them to ask questions, take on challenges and reflect on their learning. Whether exploring new ideas, solving problems or celebrating success, Net and Lee are always on hand to inspire, motivate and support our children to be the very best they can be.

The Netley Teaching Sequence
At The Federation of Netley Abbey Infant and Junior Schools, we use the Netley Teaching Sequence to provide a consistent and effective approach to teaching and learning across the school. This evidence-informed pedagogy carefully guides children through a journey of learning, beginning with revisiting and retrieving prior knowledge before new concepts are introduced. Teachers model new learning clearly (I Do), support children through guided practice (We Do), and then provide opportunities for independent application (You Do). Children are given time to practise, deepen their understanding, make connections and apply their learning in different contexts before reflecting on what they have achieved.
Our learning sequence has been designed using Rosenshine's Principles of Instruction as its foundation. The sequence incorporates daily review and retrieval practice to strengthen long-term memory, presents new learning in small, manageable steps, uses clear modelling and worked examples, provides guided practice with regular questioning to check understanding, and gradually releases responsibility to pupils as their confidence grows. Opportunities for independent practice, reflection and application help to secure learning and promote long-term retention.
This structured approach helps all children to develop confidence, independence and resilience, ensuring that knowledge is remembered, skills are embedded and every child is supported to achieve Excellence Every Day.
